A Myth About Reflection

Writing my own myth made me see myths in a whole new way. When I was just reading about, I was thinking about myths as these big, ancient stories that explained how the world worked or why people behaved the way they did. But when I actually had to create one myself, I realized how personal and modern a myth can be, which was very exciting. I took something as small and annoying as my phone alarm and turned it into something new with meaning. It made me think about how much control technology has over our emotions and routines, and how even that could be turned into a myth.

Creating the myth helped me understand that myths aren’t just old stories, they’re reflections of how people deal with life in whatever time period they’re in. The process literally forced me to step into a creative space where I was half writer and half observer. It made me think about my own habits, like how I rely on that alarm to wake up, even though I hate it, and how that says something.

I think in the future, this experience will stick with me because it reminded me that storytelling can make even the most ordinary part of life feel meaningful. If I end up teaching, I want to bring that into the classroom, because students connect better when they see how myth lives in their own lives, not just in Greek gods or old tales.
